Slovenian digital nomad visa

After falling in love with Ljubljana’s charming streets on our visit, we’re pumped to break down Slovenia’s brand-new Digital Nomad Visa.

What it means, who qualifies, and how to apply.

Slovenia is rolling out its first-ever Digital Nomad Visa on November 21, 2025, for remote workers from non EU/EEA countries.

It grants a 12-month stay for those working exclusively for foreign employers or clients, either as employees, contractors, or freelancers.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a citizen outside the EU/EEA
  • Work only for foreign-based employers or clients
  • Meet a minimum income requirement (estimated at around €3,200/month, roughly double Slovenia’s average net salary of €1,600) – If you are looking for a digital nomad visa with lower income requirements, check out the Bulgarian Digital Nomad Visa where the income requirement is closer to €2,000/month
  • Maintain valid health insurance, have a clean criminal record, and provide proof of accommodation in Slovenia

You can also bring family members, but they cannot work in Slovenia.

Duration & Renewal

  • Valid for 12 months, non-renewable
  • After it expires, you must spend at least six months outside Slovenia before reapplying

How to Apply

  • Applications open November 21, 2025
  • You can apply online, via a Slovenian embassy or consulate, or in country if already visiting as a tourist
  • Documents typically include your passport, proof of income, employment contracts or bank statements, health insurance, clean criminal record, rental agreement, and passport photo

Application fees are expected to be around €100–€130, including biometric registration.

Why Choose Slovenia?

  1. Ljubljana’s charm: We were instantly drawn to its car-free old town, riverside cafés, green parks, and buzzing coworking scene.
  2. Schengen travel perks: Visa holders will have freedom of movement in the Schengen zone.
  3. Affordable living: Estimates suggest you can live comfortably on around €2,000/month, with rent in Ljubljana starting at €600-€1,000.
  4. EU-friendly infrastructure: Fast internet (~121 Mbps), English widely spoken, and well-equipped coworking options in cities like Ljubljana, Maribor, and Celje.
  5. Nature nearby: Within a couple of hours, you can explore Lake Bled, the Julian Alps, the Adriatic coast, and more.

Slovenia ranked among the top 25 most sustainable and safe countries globally, with clean air, quality living standards, and peaceful surroundings .
