Keto Breakfast on the Go

how to eat breakfast on a travel keto diet

Having a keto breakfast on the go is a critical part of staying keto on the go.

After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Bulletproof Tea

One of the most important aspects of the keto diet is to train your body to burn fat instead of sugar and carbs.

This means getting good fats into your body at every opportunity.

So every morning we have bulletproof tea to get our bodies burning fat first thing!

What is Bulletproof Tea!?

We drink English Breakfast Tea in the morning rather than coffee.

So bulletproof tea is our take on bulletproof coffee!

So what is bulletproof coffee!?

Bulletproof coffee is a drink consisting of coffee, unsalted butter and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) coconut oil. Bulletproof coffee is meant to be drunk on an empty stomach as a replacement for breakfast.

The combination of caffeine and fats fuel the body. The calories from fat replace the breakfast meal.

Bulletproof coffee has become so mainstream that you can find it on menus all over the world.

Back to Bulletproof Tea…

We put our own spin on the bulletproof morning hot beverage idea when we make travel keto diet bulletproof tea.

For example, MCT oil is the best for bulletproof coffee or tea. Since we get on planes a lot and only use only one carry on bag we carry travel size packets of MCT oil.

But those eventually run out and it’s hard to find MCT oil in many parts of the world. So for our travel keto diet we tend to use regular coconut oil instead. It’s not as good for you but as we always say on our keto diet: perfect is the enemy of good enough!

We also add a little collagen powder instead of butter because it’s better for your digestion and has fewer calories than butter.

And Lisa swears that taking some collagen powder in our morning tea has improved my skin – especially my facial skin – considerably.

As you can see, Lipton Yellow Label Tea is our favorite but honestly any English Breakfast Tea will do.

We’re not big fans of Earl Grey Tea but when you are traveling full time on a keto diet sometimes you take what you can get!

Keto Breakfast on the Go Beyond Bulletproof Tea

There are mornings where bulletproof tea just doesn’t cut it.

We are hungry and want something more substantial.

The good travel keto diet news is that most classic American, British and German breakfast foods are perfect keto foods!

Take the traditional full English breakfast, for example.

Bacon, fried, poached or scrambled eggs, fried or grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms, and sausages (aka bangers) are all keto friendly (the tomatoes are technically not strict keto but fine on our travel dirty keto diet)!

The fried bread or buttered toast are not keto but one of our 7 Tips and Hacks for Eating at Restaurants on the Keto Diet Anywhere in the World is: Your side dishes are yours.

Don’t be shy about them! Ask for a small salad instead of fried bread with your full English breakfast! And be sure to pour olive oil on it (we carry olive oil travel packets in case the restaurant doesn’t have it).

Even breakfast buffets can be keto friendly if you stick with eggs, bacon, sausage and sliced meats.

We’ve had breakfast at buffets in hotels and airport Priority Pass lounges all over the world!

Even in countries like Thailand and Malaysia we can find keto diet friendly breakfast food.

Thai omelettes are a great example.

Breakfast on a keto diet should never be a problem. Just avoid the cereals, oatmeal and other sugary and carby foods.

Bottom Line – Keto Breakfast on the Go

A typical travel keto diet day should start with a keto diet breakfast of bulletproof coffee or bulletproof tea.

But sometimes you want more.

Luckily there are lots of keto diet friendly breakfast foods available during travel!
